  In usual Basie fashion, this chart swings its tail off with incredible ensemble passages, and provides for plenty of solo space for both tenor saxophonists to dual it out.  Eighteen is a flat-out, rock n' roll chart based on a tune from one of Pat Metheny's earlier albums, "Offramp.  Nelson wrote an album for Johnny Hodges (Black, Brown and Beautiful, RCA) featuring the compositions of Duke Ellington and also some of his original things.

 Ernie Wilkins was one of the most successful contributors to Maynard Ferguson's amazing big band library.  What a great , fun-filled piece this is! Les has created a mythical character (in this case, the lead trombone player) who runs through a number of "musician jokes" while referring to his "brother. As recorded by the Oliver Nelson Orchestra, “Heidi” is the 3rd movement of the Impressions of Berlin suite. A gorgeous solo feature for alto saxophone throughout.

  As recorded by the Oliver Nelson Orchestra, “Heidi” is the 3rd movement of the Impressions of Berlin suite. A gorgeous solo feature for alto saxophone throughout.  Bob took the wonderful small group recording of this fun tune (on the CD "Jazz Giant" - Contemporary) and turned it into a very special big band arrangement.  This arrangement of "I Hope In Time a Change Will Come" came about through a desire to hear/play more than one chorus of this stunningly beautiful melody by Oliver Nelson.

 As recorded on the brilliant recording "A Dream Deferred" (Flying Dutchman CYL2-1449), by the Oliver Nelson Orchestra.  This arrangement by Oliver Nelson is a gorgeous alto saxophone feature of Cole Porter's "I Worship You.  This wonderful ballad is recorded on the Stan Kenton Orchestra “Sketches On Standards" CD.

 This arrangement is easier than the Pro version.  Recorded in 1954 for the recording Kenton Showcase this chart is an alto saxophone feature throughout.  Here is another chart written for Stan Kenton (in the mid-1950's), that was never recorded by the band.

 Exactly as recorded on the CD "Stan Kenton Plays Chicago," this chart is a great feature for alto saxophone set in a big band fusion style.  Originally recorded by Cannonball Adderley on his album Domination and inspired by Oliver Nelson, Bob Curnow's adaptation/arrangement of "Introduction to a Samba" features the alto saxophone and trumpet duet stating the melody supported by a traditional samba feel.  Nelson wrote an album for Johnny Hodges (Black, Brown and Beautiful, RCA) featuring the compositions of Duke Ellington and also some of his original things.

 Originally recorded by the North Texas University 2 O'Clock Band, Vern Sielert's arrangement of "Like Someone In Love" is set in an even-eighths Latin feel.  As recorded on the Standards in Silhouette CD, this is yet another of Bill Mathieu's classic arrangements of a great jazz standard ballad.  As recorded by the Stan Kenton Orchestra on "Live at Brigham Young University,"  this may well be Willie's best chart done for Stan.

 Here is a wonderful section feature for saxophones in a ballad style.  As recorded by Doc Severinsen and the Tonight Show Band on "Volume One"(Amherst),  this is a red-hot feature for two tenor saxophones (recorded by Pete Christlieb and Ernie Watts).  This is a very hip, slow, 3/4 version, with lush, warm voicings.

 This is a fast, swing chart that is a feature for tenor saxophone.  Pat Metheny is the master at composing moving, gorgeous ballads, and Too Soon Tomorrow is no exception.
