Blues Story, The - Gene Roland Early Morning (African Sunrise) - Oliver Nelson Frame for the Blues - Slide Hampton
Here is a slow, gutty, "down-home" type of blues written for and recorded by the Stan Kenton Orchestra on the Adventures In Blues album.  As recorded on the brilliant CD Afrique, by the Count Basie Orchestra, this lovely piece features piano and/or tenor sax (or whomever) in a medium-slow, lilting 12/8 feel.  Finally, Slide Hampton's incredible music is in print.
Guy Noir's Brother - Les Hooper I Didn't Ask - Bill Holman On The Corner (MM2 - Street Suite) - Bill Holman
I Didn't Ask - Bill Holman
Retail Price: $50.00
What a great , fun-filled piece this is! Les has created a mythical character (in this case, the lead trombone player) who runs through a number of "musician jokes" while referring to his "brother.  Recorded on the A View From the Side CD by the Bill Holman Band, this chart is a slow blues, with Willis taking a VERY different approach.  On the Corner is a moderate tempoed blues .

One of the great Basie recording was "The Legend", of which all the pieces were Benny Carter originals.
