Diva - Fred Sturm

The Stan Kenton Orchestra was always ahead of its time! This chart was based on the music of Blood Sweat and Tears.  Sierra continues to find the lost treasures from Maynard Ferguson's Birdland Dream Band Library.  Fred Sturm brings us another fresh, innovative arrangement.
Dream of the Return - Pat Metheny / arr. Curnow Frank Speaking - Bill Russo Get Out of Town - arr. Johnny Richards
Frank Speaking - Bill Russo
Retail Price: $55.00
This ballad is almost spiritual in its effect!! A trombone feature, the melody soars throughout.  The Stan Kenton Orchestra was always an ideal showcase for the outstanding soloists within its ranks.  Johnny Richards at his best! A very playable chart without a lot of range concerns for brass.
Guy Noir's Brother - Les Hooper I Get Along Without You Very Well I Get Along Without You Very Well (8 Brass)
What a great , fun-filled piece this is! Les has created a mythical character (in this case, the lead trombone player) who runs through a number of "musician jokes" while referring to his "brother. Straight from the Stan Kenton library, Bill Mathieu’s arrangement of “I Get Along Without You Very Well” is recorded on “Standards in Silhouette.” Mathieu’s muted, mellow chart, broken by the occasion Kenton brass, will make a perfect interlude for any concert. 5-5-5-3 Bill Mathieu’s arrangement of “I Get Along Without You Very Well” is brought to you edited for 8 brass by Bob. Mathieu’s muted, mellow chart, broken by the occasion Kenton brass, will make a perfect interlude for any concert. Solo space for Alto 1, Trumpet 5, and 1st Trombone. 5-4-4-3

Boy, you talk about a wonderful Trombone Feature .  Bill Mathieu's arrangements, done for the Stan Kenton Orchestra were some of the most beautiful pieces ever recorded by that band. Recorded in 1947 and included in the Milestones LP, this piece is a gorgeous melody (one of Pete's best known).

Polka Dots and Moonbeams - arr. Bill Holman Sail to the Moon - Radiohead / arr. Omar Thomas Stella By Starlight - arr. Johnny Richards
Arranged by Holman for Carl Fontana with the Stan Kenton Orchestra in the mid 50's.  This arrangement continues the Radiohead Jazz Project and adds another wonderful talent to the list of outstanding RJP writers.  This is the bass trombone solo, as recorded (The Kenton Era) by George Roberts with the Stan Kenton Orchestra.

The Thrill is Gone
Retail Price: $55.00
As originally recorded by Count Basie on the Roulette LP (Vogue CD) "Kansas City Suite - the Music of Benny Carter",  this is a beautiful ballad, written to feature trombone throughout.  Written for and recorded by the Maynard Ferguson Birdland Dream Band, this chart by Willie Maiden is uncharacteristically easy to play for the band due to very reasonable brass ranges. Henderson and Brown's "The Thrill is Gone," arranged here by Don Dimick for the UNT One O'Clock Lab Band. A strong Tenor Sax soloist can really make this piece their own. Piano is tacit throughout. This moving ballad makes for a wonderful interlude in any set.  5-5-5-2
