A Night At The Golden Nugget (Edited) - arr. by Bob Curnow Adeste Fideles - arr. Rich DeRosa Afternoon - Pat Metheny / arr. Curnow
Hear The Music! See The Music!

Gene Roland wrote for the Stan Kenton Orchestra for almost the entire history of the Kenton Band. He wrote the entire “Adventure in Blues” album for that band, and this is just one of many highly original, swinging charts on that recording. This is the edited version written for standard big band instrumentation. There is also the Pro version available with original instrumentation. Bob Curnow’s edition of this eases some of the challenges of the original along with changing the instrumentation. It makes this a lot more fun to play. Alto sax and trumpet are soloists on this medium blues swinger. Roland at his best! 5-4-4-4
Arranged for the WDR Big Band (Germany), Richard DeRosa has written a beautiful masterpiece on this traditional Christmas favorite. Scored as a brass and horn chorale, this moving piece is filled with fluid cantabile lines, engaging counterpoint, lush harmonies and gorgeous ensemble climaxes.  Here is a slow, swinging, lovely, warm, relaxed composition.
All The Things You Are - arr. Gerry Mulligan Back In Time - Pat Metheny / arr. Bob Curnow Ballad for Benny - Oliver Nelson
One of those mystery charts that hardly anyone knows about, this chart is a beauty.  Pat Metheny is known for his beautiful melodies, and "Back In Time" is no exception.  Oliver Nelson wrote the most beautiful melodies! This is a clarinet feature (how about that?), and was recorded by Phil Woods and the Oliver Nelson's Jazz Interactions Orchestra (hear it on the Verve Jazz Masters 48 CD).
Bari Things You Do, The - Geoff Keezer Baubles, Bangles and Beads - arr. Lennie Niehaus Beat 70 - Metheny & Mays / arr. Bob Curnow
Geoff's original music is the best! It is unique, very melodic and extremely interesting. Here is another fantastic Lennie Niehaus arrangement as recorded by the Stan Kenton Orchestra on “The Stage Door Swings” Album!    Bob Curnow provides yet another great arrangement of one of Pat Metheny/Lyle Mays' biggest hits. Originally recorded on their album Letter From Home, "Beat 70" is an exciting up-tempo Latin/fusion tune that will leave your band and audiences humming this catchy melody for the rest of the day! Ranges are mostly modest and rhythmic concerns are minimal. There is solo space for tenor saxophone, trumpet, piano and drums. This chart is a must-have! 5-4-4-4

Chicken Polo - Les Hooper

As Recorded by the Count Basie Orchestra on "Pop Goes the Basie." Call Me Irresponsible has that smooth, medium swing to get your listeners swaying back and forth. This chart is easy enough for most bands to play, but truly shines when performed with a Trombone soloist with charisma. 5-4-4-4

Full of up-tempo energy, Oliver masterfully intertwines the melody in the saxophones with counter-lines from the brass to create an incredible tapestry of sound.  A terrific funk chart! Lots of space for optional solos.
Chickenscratch Children of the Sun - Bob Curnow Come Blow Your Horn (Pro v.) - arr. Al Cohn
Chickenscratch
List Price: $55.00
Retail Price: $55.00
One of the hottest “Chicken” charts from Les Hooper’s catalogue, Chickenscratch joins the likes of “Poultry Guest” and “Rooster Parade” as a rocking boogaloo. You’ll find this wonderful chart playable by most bands. 5-4-4-4  This is a completely re-composed and re-notated (in Finale) version of a piece that has been in the catalog for a while. We are excited to put into print this terrific swingin’ Al Cohn arrangement as played by the Maynard Ferguson Big Band on their album, “Come Blow Your Horn”!
Come Fly With Me - arr. Billy Byers Cool School Dropout - Les Hooper Count Me In (Pro) - Billy Byers
The Count Basie Orchestra performed the music of Billy Byers for many, many years. His arrangement of "Come Fly With Me" is recorded on the Basie album Frankly Basie: Count Basie Plays the Hits of Frank Sinatra. Set in an up-tempo swing feel, Byers hits it hard from bar 1 and doesn't let up until the end of the chart.  This is exactly as recorded on the Hooper CD "Out of the Woods.  Much like Neil Hefti's "Li'l Darlin'," this Billy Byers original exemplifies quiet, warm ensemble writing at its finest.

Hear The Music! See The Music!

Bob Curnow dedicates this to his new grandson Eli whose middle name is Wolfgang. So, he had to have his own tune, right? Based on a medium slow, swinging feel, this chart moves quickly into a Basie-ish style with the tenors and trombones stating the theme. The 2nd statement is surrounded with lots of lines that weave in and out. This is followed by a tenor sax solo. The full ensemble then sets up the following trombone solo. The ensemble once again takes over for before the drums state some short solo passages. The chart ends as it began, nice and easy. 5-5-4-4 $50.00

Set in a contemporary pop/swing feel, this arrangement makes a wonderful contrast to any program.

This new piece from Patty is a slow swing in 3/4 with elements of sparsity and transcendence throughout along with an abundance of solo space for flugelhorn that really intensifies this sentiment. “Gratitude” is the perfect contrasting piece for your program to add that element of variety every band and audience needs. (5-4-4-4)  New to Sierra Music, composer/arranger Jamey Simmons brings a great, new original, "Greasin' the Skids", set to a New Orleans 2nd Line Feel (with momentary switches to a swing feel).
Hark, the Herald Angels Sing - arr. Rich DeRosa Have Bass, Will Travel – Bob Curnow Havin' A Good Time - Les Hooper
"Hark, the Herald Angels Sing" is a light, happy, easy-swing chart that is playable by most any band.

Hear The Music! See The Music!

This Curnow original was inspired by the fact that there aren’t a lot of bass features available for up-and-coming bassists. The tempo is set at about 100, and the chart opens up with your bass player soloing (written or improved) for 12 bars before the band moves in with a cool, quiet, rich statement of the theme. The bassist then solos (written or improvised) for another 24 bars before the full band comes roaring in with a strong statement. The soloist then continues for a bit before the band takes over again. The piece ends as it began, with the band stating that cool statement of the theme to the end. Give your bass player a shot. She (or he) deserves it. Two different bass parts are included; one with a written solo throughout and one with just changes for the more mature player. Moderate ranges for all makes this a very accessible chart for most bands. 5-4-4-4 $50.00

The title says it all! Your band and your audience will have a good time with this chart by Les! It is a Latin-rock setting of a very hiptune.
Here to Stay - Pat Metheny / arr. Curnow Hexagon Mat Dance - Les Hooper Hey, Jealous Lover - arr. Billy Byers
Set as an easy-going rock feel, this Pat Metheny and Lyle Mays composition is sure to be a band and audience favorite.  As recorded on Les' LP Dorian Blue (Churchill Records).  Many have tried, but few have been able to match the incredible swing that happens when you combine Billy Byers' arranging with the Count Basie Orchestra. Originally recorded on the Basie album Frankly Basie: Count Basie Plays the Hits of Frank Sinatra, "Hey, Jealous Lover" is a medium-swing chart that will excite your band and audiences alike!

Willie Maiden's arrangement of "I'll Be Seeing You" packs a whopper in a tiny box, making this chart perfect as an encoure closer for any set. As recorded by Maynard Ferguson and his orchestra on the album Dancing Sessions, Willie's arrangement makes great use of the trombone section as they carry the melody upfront before passing it around to the rest of the band.

As recorded by the Count Basie Orchestra on "Basie Picks the Winners." I'll Get By starts soft, then shouts to get your audience's attention. A subtle line of piano solos lets your pianist carry that Basie harmony throughout this short, but wonderful, chart. 5-4-4-4

Billy Byers' arrangement of "I'll Never Smile Again" will take you back to a time when dancing to a slow swing tune, played by a live big band in a ballroom filled with amazing sounds, was the absolute best part of any weekend. Originally recorded by the Count Basie Orchestra on their album Frankly Basie: Count Basie Plays the Hits of Frank Sinatra, Byers' arrangement uses the full ensemble to state the melody complete with a scattering of Basie fills, followed by a written out piano solo.  This is a rich, warm chart as arranged by Stan.  A lovely Broadway tune as scored for Kenton's dance book.

Hear The Music! See The Music!

Although Sierra Music published the original version of this cool chart in the past, Bob Curnow decided to edit it and make the Stan Kenton Orchestra piece a lot easier and fun to play. The instrumentation has been changed to standard big band, and the demands for extreme high trumpet playing have been altered (works very well). The original of this great Latin chart was recorded on “Viva Kenton.” This is a laid-back, moderate tempo tune that brings you the best of Kenton and Roland. You’ll love it.
