As recorded on the brilliant recording "A Dream Deferred" (Flying Dutchman CYL2-1449), by the Oliver Nelson Orchestra. Written with the younger band in mind, this fun, easy-to-play chart can be performed as written or used as a tool to reinforce ear training and improvising. There is ample solo space for alto saxophone, trumpet, and guitar and can be played with a swing or hip hop feel. The reasonable brass ranges and flexibility of this chart make it a must have for the younger band! (5-4-4-4)  Holman has done a few arrangements of this tune, and this one may well be the best.

 There is always room for a jazz waltz, and you will love this one.  This is a wonderful chart, an old tune in a new dress, as only Bill Holman can do it.  The Count Basie Orchestra performed the music of Billy Byers for many, many years. His arrangement of "Come Fly With Me" is recorded on the Basie album Frankly Basie: Count Basie Plays the Hits of Frank Sinatra. There were a few Holman charts that were written for the Stan Kenton Orchestra which had disappeared over the years, seemingly lost forever.  Recorded on the Hawthorne Nights LP (PABLO) by Zoot Sims, and a wonderful cast of players, this is a neat, medium swing tune which features tenor sax (naturally).    This is a lovely, cool, easy-swing chart that explores linear material as written for and recorded by the North Texas One O'clock Lab Band (Lab 2013).  As recorded by the Tonight Show Band on "Once More With Feeling" (Amherst), this bright, swinging chart is a blast !  Bill Holman is at his best, weaving descending unison lines with the tune stated by trumpet and tenor sax (both of which are given solo space).  Bob took the wonderful small group recording of this fun tune (on the CD "Jazz Giant" - Contemporary) and turned it into a very special big band arrangement.
