 Pat Metheny is known for his beautiful melodies, and "Back In Time" is no exception.   Set as a bright swing, this chart opens up with an energetic unison saxophone line, punctuated with brass hits.    Bob Curnow provides yet another great arrangement of one of Pat Metheny/Lyle Mays' biggest hits. Originally recorded on their album Letter From Home, "Beat 70" is an exciting up-tempo Latin/fusion tune that will leave your band and audiences humming this catchy melody for the rest of the day! Ranges are mostly modest and rhythmic concerns are minimal. There is solo space for tenor saxophone, trumpet, piano and drums. This chart is a must-have! 5-4-4-4

  As recorded by the Oliver Nelson Orchestra, “Berlin Bei Nacht” is the 4th movement of the Impressions of Berlin suite.    The music of Steely Dan has come to Sierra Music! From the same masterful pen that brought the music of Radiohead and Astor Piazzola, the late, great Fred Sturm wows us once again. Originally arranged for the HR Big Band (Germany), this rock-ish, heavy-shuffle tune provides hard hitting melody sections, plenty of room for improvisation (as you choose), and raucous ensemble interplay.  James Miley brings to Sierra another hip arrangement of a great contemporary tune.

Here is a slow, gutty, "down-home" type of blues written for and recorded by the Stan Kenton Orchestra on the Adventures In Blues album.
As recorded by Stan Kenton & His Orchestra on the “7.5 On The Richter Scale” album, this all time great standard receives a fresh sound with the impeccable scoring talent of Marty Paich. This arrangement has it all…….a solo piano introduction, a variety of feels (ballad, rubato, swing, 12/8), and stunning ensemble passages. This chart is considered by many to be one of the finest big band arrangements ever written, and Sierra Music is proud to be able to make it available to you. (5-5-5-4)

Drew uses theme and variation to take this marvelous, swinging melody into challenging, extensive and exciting places.  Here is a deeply emotional, gorgeous ballad from the self-titled album Lyle Mays.  The Count Basie Orchestra performed the music of Billy Byers for many, many years. His arrangement of "Come Fly With Me" is recorded on the Basie album Frankly Basie: Count Basie Plays the Hits of Frank Sinatra. Set in an up-tempo swing feel, Byers hits it hard from bar 1 and doesn't let up until the end of the chart.

Originally recorded by Cannonball Adderley on his album Domination, "Cyclops" is one of those charts that will make your audiences bob their heads and tap their feet.  Fred Sturm brings us another fresh, innovative arrangement.  Arranged by Bill Holman and originally recorded by the Woody Herman Orchestra, featuring Stan Getz, on their album Live at the Concord Jazz Festival, "The Dolphin (El Delfrin)" is written in a beautiful Bossa Nova setting and features tenor saxophone throughout.

   The music of Steely Dan has come to Sierra Music! Originally arranged for the HR Big Band (Germany), the late, great Fred Sturm has given us another rock chart worthy of any band's library. In typical Sturm fashion, the beginning of "FM" is a kaleidoscope of independent fragments culminating with the original Steely Dan intro as it moves into the melody played by clarinets.    The music of Steely Dan has come to Sierra Music! The late, great Fred Sturm originally arranged this for the HR Big Band (Germany), and Sierra is thrilled to add it to its catalog. Set as a slow rock/gospel, there is beautiful, lush ensemble writing througout the piece. Another great chart to add to the ever-growing Pat Metheny Series, Bob Curnow has arranged this down-right funk tune originally recorded on the PMG album We Live Here.

As recorded by the Count Basie Orchestra on their album Hits of the 50's & 60's - This Time By Basie, Quincy Jones' arrangement of "I Can't Stop Loving You" will bring your audiences to their feet.  Quincy Jones wrote some incredible arrangements on very popular tunes for the Count Basie Orchestra.

 This arrangement by Oliver Nelson is a gorgeous alto saxophone feature of Cole Porter's "I Worship You.  Short, sweet and swingin'! Willie Maiden's arrangement of "I'll Be Seeing You" packs a whopper in a tiny box, making this chart perfect as an encoure closer for any set. As recorded by Maynard Ferguson and his orchestra on the album Dancing Sessions, Willie's arrangement makes great use of the trombone section as they carry the melody upfront before passing it around to the rest of the band.  Billy Byers' arrangement of "I'll Never Smile Again" will take you back to a time when dancing to a slow swing tune, played by a live big band in a ballroom filled with amazing sounds, was the absolute best part of any weekend. Originally recorded by the Count Basie Orchestra on their album Frankly Basie: Count Basie Plays the Hits of Frank Sinatra, Byers' arrangement uses the full ensemble to state the melody complete with a scattering of Basie fills, followed by a written out piano solo.

 This Oliver Nelson melody was originally recorded with a small group.   Originally recorded by the Count Basie Orchestra on their album Afrique, “Kilimanjaro” is a mesmerizing, easy-feeling Latin composition which pulses along by the constant tumbao bass groove and infectious percussion.   Based on the blues, as so much of Oliver’s music was, this bright swing (waltz feel) starts with an aggressive line for woodwind doubles and adds to its intensity with the entrance of the trumpets a short while later.

Allan Ganley's reputation and legacy in England drew our attention to this marvelous arrangement of "One Morning in May."    This chart is a great addition to a growing collection of Radiohead charts that has provided bands throughout the world with wonderful, unique choices for their jazz band programs. Patty Darling has a lock on Radiohead after providing her exquisite chart on "Idioteque," a best-selling arrangement.

 This new, original piece by the great Fred Sturm features drum set throughout in a modern swing tune that winds through many different feels.    Rich DeRosa has created a marvelous Latin composition in a baião feel that is recorded by the North Texas Two O'Clock Lab Band. It comes out of the gate roaring.
