Hymn To The Gods
List Price: $55.00
Retail Price: $55.00
As recorded by the Tonight Show Band on "Once More With Feeling" (Amherst), this bright, swinging chart is a blast !  Bill Holman is at his best, weaving descending unison lines with the tune stated by trumpet and tenor sax (both of which are given solo space). Bob Curnow has taken fragments of a piece written during his grad school days and developed a very attractive and unique chart, featuring solos for tenor saxophone, trumpet, and drums. Very dramatic shout choruses and the solos are surrounded by a quiet beginning and ending. 5 4-4-4 Straight from the Stan Kenton library, Bill Mathieu’s arrangement of “I Get Along Without You Very Well” is recorded on “Standards in Silhouette.” Mathieu’s muted, mellow chart, broken by the occasion Kenton brass, will make a perfect interlude for any concert. 5-5-5-3

Introduction to a Samba - arr. Bob Curnow Invention for Guitar and Trumpet - Bill Holman It Could Happen To You (Edited) - arr. Willie Maiden
Originally recorded by Cannonball Adderley on his album Domination and inspired by Oliver Nelson, Bob Curnow's adaptation/arrangement of "Introduction to a Samba" features the alto saxophone and trumpet duet stating the melody supported by a traditional samba feel.  Once used in the Blackboard Jungle movie, this piece is one of Holman's earliest compositions to be recorded by Kenton.  It Could Happen To You is one of the best known standard tunes, and this arrangement certainly does it justice.

Commissioned by the IAJE Pennsylvania State Unit for the PA All-State Jazz Ensemble.   5-4-4-4  This is another Masterwork by Metheny and Mays and destined to become the same kind of classic as The First Circle . This arrangement is a full band version based on Willie Maiden's superb arrangement for Maynard's smaller band (4 saxes, 4 tpts., 2 trbs.). It does not require the extreme high trumpet playing of the pro version.   5-4-4-3

As recorded by the Tonight Show Band on "Once More With Feeling" (Amherst), this is a lovely, warm ballad setting of this great standard tune. Bob Curnow took a fresh approach to one of the Yellowjackets' most popular recordings. Russell Ferrante's composition allows for a full-throated arrangement featuring the original feel/style (kind of jazz fusion-ish) and solo space for trumpet and soprano saxophone. 5-4-4-4  Piazzolla wrote many beautiful melodies, and this one is perhaps the most haunting.

This great arrangement by Eric Miyashiro of Mike Mainieri's "Trains" is a chart that is performed beautifully by the Blue Note Tokyo All-Star Jazz Orchestra with guests Peter Erskine & Bob James. This great arrangement by Eric Miyashiro of Mike Mainieri's "Trains" is a chart that is performed beautifully by the Blue Note Tokyo All-Star Jazz Orchestra with guests Peter Erskine & Bob James. Composed by Don Goodwin, Jr. for the Spokane Jazz Orchestra in honor of Bob Curnow, this very unique, interesting, and exciting piece is a thrill to play and hear. Don set some wonderful melodic thoughts in a medium tempo 5/4 meter that practically plays itself. 5-4-4-4

Once again, Patty Darling "nails it." This wonderful and truly very exciting chart, based on a powerful half-time funk feel is, yet again, an amazing chart by this incredible composer. The solo features either (or both) piano or trumpet. As with most of Patty's music, the brass ranges are quite reasonable, making this a very playable chart. 5-4-4-4.

Patty Darling brings us yet another great contemporary chart, incorporating multiple solo opportunities. Have fun and enjoy the drive! 5-4-4-4

Every band from Tommy Dorsey to the Tonight Show Band to Ted Heath seemed to have a version of this great Sy Oliver tune.
What Is This Thing Called Love - arr. Tommy Newsom What's New? - arr. Holman Where's Teddy (edited v.) - arr. Bob Curnow
What's New? - arr. Holman
List Price: $55.00
Retail Price: $55.00
As recorded on the Tonight Show Band CD "Once More With Feeling" (Amherst Records), this chart is one of the "hippest" that Tommy ever wrote for that band. Bill Holman wrote this arrangement for the Kenton Orchestra in the early '60's to feature Marvin Stamm on trumpet (of course). Kenton never recorded it, so this is a brand-new chart to most people. No guitar. 5-4-4-3  This "edited" version of "Where's Teddy" (as played and recorded by Maynard Ferguson's Birdland Dream Band) is much more playable for the trumpet section as a whole than the original "pro" version (which is also available).

Retail Price: $50.00
This is the original chart as played and recorded by Maynard Ferguson's Birdland Dream Band.  This is a nifty trumpet section feature, written with the young player in mind.  Bill Mathieu's arrangements, done for the Stan Kenton Orchestra, were some of the most beautiful pieces ever recorded by that band.
